I am looking forward to the rhythm of heading into a new riding season. There are new personal challenges sketched out in the mind and dates pencilled in the personal calendar. Some will happen and some won’t but I find it good to let the initial inspiration take me wherever it does, get me out on my bike and see some of those pencilled in dates grow into a 2 wheeled reality.

One thing that’s firmly in the personal ride diary and that I am really excited about is Badlands 2020. In the event organisers own wordsBadlands is the unsupported gravel challenge on the edge of Europe. The route is about 700km +15.000m and crosses some of the most remote and challenging places in Europe: Hoya de Guadix, Gorafe Desert, Tabernas Desert, Cabo de Gata Natural Park and Veleta Pass at 3.212m. 85% off-road.

There is quite a group of us now heading out from the UK to take on this race so it will be nice to go hard on the bike, see some new landscapes and share some stories and cold beers at the end with familiar and new faces.

Also for 2020, I want to get back over to Belgium with some friends in the spring and hit the cobbles (and beers) of Flanders. I can’t wait for the local Sussex land to dry out and explore more doorstep 1 / 2 day rides. I also want to explore some more of Finland. I really love it there and would like to expand my knowledge of that part of the world. I want to head to the far north and I would also love to ride from Helsinki to St Petersburg in Russia. I also want to get my kids and their school involved in some outdoor Adventures too.

Being the boss at Rpm90, I am proud of how our Adventures are developing and how the ‘work’  2020 calendar is taking shape. I am really looking forward to our local UK rides and our trip to beautiful Tuscany with MASON Cycles. Another highlight will be a trip to Greece. We are working on a very cool Bespoke road tour in the Peloponnese area for a really fun group of riders. I am lucky to have Claire, Jo, Liam and James on the team to help me deliver some unique ride experiences to our clients. We are a range of ages, we come from an interesting mixture of upbringings, we all offer something different to the trip mix and all enjoy riding together. I look forward to the year ahead with the team, looking after our regular clients and introducing new ones to the RPM90 experience.
