This time of year would normally see me coming towards the end of the too-short cyclo-cross season and heading indoors to ride my bike around the velodrome but things have been a little different this year. The recent purchase of a new house that needs far more work than first anticipated has meant I haven’t been able to ride as much as I would like.
I have been getting a few training rides in though and on Boxing Day I did my traditional 100 but with my little boy Eddie for the first time, he was in a trailer and I only did 100 kilometres instead of the usual 100 miles but a century is still a century, right?
Whilst working with RMP90 takes me all over Europe and I get to ride some of the best routes you can think of, this year I’m looking forward to exploring my local area of Leicestershire and Derbyshire more, I don’t mean just outside my back door, but areas you can’t quite get to in a day’s ride and you drive past when you put the bike in the back of the car to somewhere else. With my increased interest in bikepacking it opens up a whole world of new adventures and they don’t have to be the epic journeys you see on Instagram which only ever seem to tell one side of the story. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to riding somewhere nice and warm with little chance of rain, so this year’s trip to Greece definitely sounds good.
